Band History.

There has been a history of Brass Bands in the Bedale area since the late 1800‘s, but unfortunately, perhaps due to the fact that many players would have been from military stock they did not last. The first Band that we know of disbanded in the early 1900's, the next lasted from 1949 to 1954, and then the third from 1963 to 1975. At some time the Band was apparently linked to the Ancient Order of Foresters - does anybody have any information about this ?? please contact us ! This brings us up to date, as the present Band was started in 1987. To try to ensure that the Band has a steady input of players, we place a strong emphasis on training. These learners, aged from 7 upwards progress through the Royal College of Music exams and are the future of this and other Bands. |
